Are Your Affirmations Positive? How to Do Them Right

Making daily affirmations positive is a sneaky art, but once you get the simple "twist" that makes your affirmation list become positive, you're well on your way to success. This article gives you tips for creating phrases that really are in line with what you desire, as well as gives examples and encourages a well-rounded approach to practicing your list of affirmations.

WHAT IS AN AFFIRMATION? Let's take just a second to make sure that we are all on the same page when it comes to writing positive affirmations. The goal, of course, is to learn how to write affirmations that work. Before you begin writing positive affirmations, though, you've got to be completely sure of what you want to "affirm" to yourself since that is at the core of your daily affirmations or positive phrases that you are using to "program new thoughts into your mind." So, what is an affirmation? It's a positive phrase that you repeat often enough to "affirm" a new idea into your mind.

WRITING POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS: The "sneaky" trick when writing positive affirmations, however, is in creating the phrases in the exact direction of what you want to "affirm" to your mind. I'll explain that one quickly...

To write affirmations that work, you want to make sure they are short affirmations and that they focus directly on the "object of your desire." However, if the "object of your desire" is to lose weight, for example, most people mistakenly write daily affirmations that focus on "losing weight." Ah hah! That's where most people make their mistake because affirmation examples that focus on "losing weight" focus on the subject of "weight."

This concept may be hard to "figure out" in the beginning, but it gets easier as you go along. Weight loss affirmations, for example, should focus on "becoming slim and beautiful" because THAT is what you want to "affirm" to yourself.

EXAMPLES: Since weight loss affirmations are so popular and so tangible, I'll give you a few short affirmations that drive my point home. Although this affirmation list may sound unusual, I think you'll see that there is more to doing weight loss affirmations than just focusing on the subject of "weight."

"I am slim and beautiful."
"My body is healthy, happy and slim."
"My metabolism works perfectly."
"I enjoy telling myself that I am beautiful."
"I see my body in perfect balance."
"Everyone around me accepts me as beautiful."
"I accept that I am beautiful just as I am now."

LIST OF AFFIRMATIONS: Creating affirmations that are positive is important by focusing on exactly what you want to "affirm" to yourself, but there is one other ingredient for success in making your affirmation list for daily affirmations work and that is to make sure you are using positive affirmations that encompass many facets of your life. This concept is just as important as making affirmations positive because you'll want to be "hitting your target" from all angles. To do this, you'll want to include positive phrases that keep you motivated, confident and energized to make the changes you want in your life.

Combining the art of making affirmations positive and making your daily affirmations encompass many parts of your life are two key ingredients for making affirmations that work.

How We Use Sounds For Daily Affirmations

In our normal every day lives we often use sounds for daily affirmations without even realizing that this is what we're doing! In the car you may have your favourite track playing on the stereo. Even though it's music, it's still sound even though it's been formed into a structure that we identify as music.

The essential thing is that we are using the sounds to help us feel good. It's a trigger to give us that boost of euphoria we need in order to face the day. It can lift us from the lowest mood to the highest peak of exhilaration, depending on exactly what fires our own emotions. Hence some people get a great thrill jumping about and listening to heavy metal - while the neighbour next door could be burying into the pillow at the constant thump, thump, thump of the drums. My father used to cry tears of joy listening to Messiaen's organ music while I used to cry tears of pain.

Some people use daily affirmations to help them find the confidence to face the day. These are, after all, sounds in another format. Everything we hear is sound. It's the meaning we attach to it that causes our emotions to run high or to flatten out to a tranquil state. So to find those sounds that have the best effect is essential to finding affirmations that work.

Have you ever heard how it doesn't matter what you say to a baby because it's the tone in which you say it? This has the same effect on us if we can't understand what the meaning behind the words is. I remember hearing a beautifully intoned phrase in German and thinking it must be something beautiful. It turned out to mean "we're having some really shocking weather".

To reinforce positive words, we use as affirmations we can use them against a backdrop of music or sounds that have a positive effect on us. For some it will be Beethoven's powerful music. Others will prefer the dulcet tones of Enya. Still more will want to relax to the sound of waves lapping on the shore.

One of the most powerful experiences in my life has been to work with Tibetan singing bowls. I have seen these in action in Nepal and been deeply moved by the response to them and the experience of coming into contact with their deep vibrations and tones. For me, this is one of the most magical sounds there can be, reaching out from across the millennia with healing energy - essentially because of their beautiful sounds.

Thanks to the work of early pioneers, such as Paul Nordoff and Clive Robbins in the 40s and 50s, the world of science is only just beginning to recognize the significance of music as a psychological tool. As a result, music therapy and various forms of sound therapy are developing as disciplines in their own right.

So if there is only one thing you do to make yourself feel better, make time to listen to music. Personally I have recorded the sounds of the sea lapping the beach at Rocky Bay in Co. Cork, Ireland and this gives me great comfort when I am holed up in my city address and in need of the freedom of the countryside. If you can organize yourself enough then repeat some positive statements aloud or silently as you listen to the music or sounds. Most of all, find the opportunity to surround yourself with sounds as daily affirmations.

I have worked with sounds all my life. If this article has fired your interest in some of the ways that I look at sound then take a look at http://www.squidoo.com/sounds-for-daily-affirmations. There are some fascinating advancements in this area which are well worth checking out. I also use Tibetan singing bowls to work with adults and children with autism. To see more of what I do then please visit http://www.feelingsounds.com/ and if there is anything you can add I would love to hear from you on either site. Thank you for reading.

Success Using Positive Affirmations

Everyone dreams of success in one way or another. Unfortunately, those who don't know the power of positive affirmations often think that success is out of their reach. With positive affirmations, however, you will find that anything is possible. Most people know the story of the little engine that could. This is a little engine that was faced with a seemingly insurmountable hill while carrying a heavy load. The engine started up the hill, repeating himself, with conviction, "I think I can, I think I can!" By using positive affirmations, the little engine was able to overcome the hill in front of him. The same holds true for any person facing any perceived obstacle in life.

Positive affirmations are the way for you to reprogram your mind into believing that anything is possible. It is easy for a person to view things in life as hard, or impossible to accomplish. If you believe that you can not do something, then you won't be able to. If, on the other hand, you tell yourself over and over again that you can achieve something, then you will find what used to be obstacles as nothing more than minor bumps in the road. Using positive affirmations will give you the confidence you need to overcome anything that might be put in your way.

How can positive affirmations help you in life? Affirmations can be compared to the lines an actor has to memorize. When actors prepare for roles, they will practice their lines as often as possible. They will repeat them to them selves any time there is a break from their regular day. When it comes time for them to perform, they have practiced their lines so often that they don't even have to think about them, they will come automatically to their mind. Positive affirmations are the same. The more that you use them, the more automatic they will become. When faced with a potential obstacle, your mind will already know that you will be able to overcome it, because that is the way you have taught you mind to think. Since you know you will overcome it, there is no longer anything blocking your forward path.

What is the best way to train your mind with positive affirmations then? Just like the actor, you will want to repeat your affirmations as often as you can. Anytime there is a break in the normal day, just take a couple of minutes to tell yourself that you can overcome and achieve anything. The best way to do this is by creating short statements that are easy to remember. It is also important to keep them positive in nature. This makes them easier to remember so you can repeat them at any given time. Make sure that you are not distracted while saying them. Riding the train or bus to work is an ideal time, since you don't have to concentrate on work or driving. Before long, as you start to get a routine, you will find yourself repeating your positive affirmations without even thinking about them. That is when you know that you are on the road to success.

Positive affirmations are the essential ingredient in a successful life. Remember that in a race, the winner will not necessarily be the person who has the best build or the best shoes on the market. The winner will be the person who, when the race is the hardest, can push through and say to them selves "I can do this!" Programming your mind to know that success is within your grasp will give you the edge in anything. Life, just like physical races are won by those who have the will to win.

Using Positive Affirmation To Get You On The Right Track In Life

Have you ever aspired for something but you do not know how to get it or acquire it? Most of us think about our dreams in life and how to achieve it. However, taking the first step towards achieving our dream is a big issue for us. This is where we need to have a positive affirmation to attain what we want in our life. Positive affirmation refers to the positive statements that you repeatedly make to yourself in order to change your way of viewing things and to bring closer whatever you want to do.

One of the basic ways to use positive affirmation is to get what you want in life. First get yourself a notebook so that you will keep track of some of the goals that you would wish to achieve. This will enable you to track your progress and keep all your ideas with you as you go throughout your day. With the notebook in place, you can put down at least two positive statements concerning the goals that you want to achieve. They should be written in such a way that you have already achieved. Then it should be stamped on and put in a place where you can easily run into often. Your positive affirmation should be written down several times each day so that they can be made more real in your mind. The more times these sentences are repeated, the more power you will have in life. This process, on the other hand, should be repeated so that you can get anything that you aspire in life.

There are things that always get into our path in getting our goal accomplished; these things are always the biggest hindrance towards attaining them. The first one is negative belief about us. Some of us always have the mental thought that they cannot do it and that it is only meant for others. This has to be eradicated since it kills all the creativity and ability in us. Another hindrance is the lack of permission from the past. The past tends to have a great impact on our positive affirmation sometimes hence making us not to accomplish some of the goals that we have in life. All these keep us stuck!

One of the key tools for any fortunate achievement is having a captivating attitude. To get this attitude, one must know what he wants because this will define how you will get what you desire. Think of something that will give you joy, peace, or fulfillment in life. Once you already know what you want, create an order or organization in your life to succeed. Discover the magnetic power of your thoughts and feelings to draw you close to your dreams. Instill and practice the winning attitude within you!

Transform Yourself Using Affirmations

Positive thoughts are the stimulus to transform yourself using affirmations. Affirmations are a technique in personal development that has gained popularity and mention in self help books, but the inspiration has been in existence from older generations that used chants and rituals in community life. Positive affirmations can be used to model new habits. It is said that we attract that which we put into our minds. In the case of trying to transform yourself using affirmations, the affirmation acts like a coded message to the mind which empowers you into action.

To transform yourself using affirmations will therefore begin with the conscious effort of replacing negative thoughts with positive thoughts. These are repeatedly said and are communicated to the subconscious. This clears all negative self talk. It is then followed by noting down in words the affirmations identified. These can be pasted at home or in the office as reminders. Speak out the words in your mind, visualizing the change. The affirmations will work to boost self esteem and propel you to do more and better things.

We can only change what we are. By internalizing your affirmations to heart, we involve your emotions which give you the extra energy even when things are not working out. You will thus need the concerted efforts of the subconscious and the conscious mind.

In attempts to transform yourself using affirmations, you are focusing on keeping high self esteem negativity pervades our lives. Feed positive messages that influence new habits in everyday life.

1. Trust in your ability to exhibit positive experiences in life. Endeavour to attract situations that are advantageous to you. Affirmations that are versatile make it easy to enjoy positive and good things.

2. Forgive yourself for mistakes made. It is the understanding that mistakes are part of life and learning. Errors serve to prevent pitfalls for the future.

3. You are worthy to receive all good things that may come your way in life. Own your success and accomplishments. Happiness is for everybody.

4. Live without fear. Don't worry about life; some situations will be perfect, others will not. The difficult moments are learning points in life.

5. Enjoy responsibilities and your career. Accomplishments give satisfaction and joy. Help other people and enjoy the boost in self esteem.

6. Examine yourself as other people see you. It calls for a less critical approach to life. Give yourself time out to vent out spent emotion when you push too much to achieve in life.

The practice of the above listed affirmations forms new habits and doesn't need thinking or analyzing just talking to your subconscious. As your affirmations begin to sink into your subconscious, your values and actions will eventually gravitate to the better. This cumulative process happens on itself until your confidence is almost bursting.

How Daily Affirmations Work

Did you ever wonder why being loved, successful, or admired is something for other people, but not for you? The answer to that question is very simple: other people have heard, and accepted, positive quotes about themselves from people they believe. Think for a moment about the simplicity of that: Positive affirmations feed your belief in yourself. They are like high octane gas in your tank.

Now say this: "I can fuel myself by accepting positive affirmations every day." Say that three times.

How does this work? Just what does that word, "work," mean?

We begin with the word "work." This will mean something a bit different for each of you reading this, but in essence, we are speaking of tools that assist us in changing how we face the world and how we perceive our own value. If you are reading this, I can assume you have doubts about your right to declare what you expect to get in life and then going for it whole hog. Is it OK for you to be the center of attention? Is it alright for you to make mistakes? Is it alright for you to be publicly acknowledged for good work done? Is it alright for you to tell others what you need to be happy, or to feel loved? (Or are they supposed to "know" already?)

Affirmations will "work" for you as you begin to believe in them and find yourself acting on their truth.

How does this happen? Think back in your life to your young years and re-hear the angry or disheartening words you grew up with. We all got these words; some of us got much more than others. They came from the very people we loved and who we believed had a true insight into our inner selves. As a counselor, I have heard many of these words, and I grew up with many myself: "Don't be so stupid. Are you EVER going to get it right? You're an idiot. You're too fat (short, inept, dumb, tall, awkward, weird, etc.) to ever do that. You're just an egghead. What did you expect? You're just too sensitive (shy, silly...)"

The list goes on and on. All these statements are nullifications of the true wonder of your being. They went in when your defenses were down, and they seemed to be sort of right, because you loved or feared the one saying them, and you were generally feeling pretty crummy at the time anyway.

Positive affirmations are the medicine-these are statements that counteract all the negative ones from the past. You may find yourself saying, "They sound great, but they aren't true!"----You are right, and the others weren't true, either. Think about it: this beautiful, incredible child who is trying to learn how to do all things adults seem to expect is also trying to find out about life on his own. Sometimes it gets complicated. Errors get made. Is that so bad? Those nullifications weren't true at the time. They became true, however, through repetition which became expectation. In the same way that past nullifications created your sense of being outside the good life, so, too, can positive affirmations bring you into that good life now. They build your belief in your own right and capability to create your own happiness, love, and success.

This building begins with saturating your subconscious mind with this new information. As we surround ourselves with the affirmations that build us up, our subconscious mind will begin to lay them over the old outdated statements. Positive affirmations are more fun, and are more NOW than the old ones from the past, which is why the subconscious wants them. With repeated reading, reciting, writing, and singing of your affirmations, your mind will begin to allow your actions to direct your life towards making them true for you. You will find yourself turning towards happiness, love, and success---a cosmic YES waiting just for you.

Positive Affirmation Techniques to Manifest Change

You can manifest many deep changes in your life using positive affirmations. It is simple and it is true. This article addresses how to make these positive suggestions work for you. Start with the following affirmation. Read it to yourself:

"I have the right to believe in myself, regardless of my past." Now, read it out loud three times.

Now read this one: "I believe in myself." Now, read that one out loud three times.

Did you get stuck here, ("But it's not true!")? Type "I believe in myself" on a pretty piece of paper, and follow the suggestions in the rest of this article. If you are ready to expand into different affirmations, follow the suggestions in the rest of this article. You will have fun as your life unfolds in a new a delightful way.

When you come to believe in yourself in a deep way, your life changes, and other people change around you. You also find that you create, use, and believe in affirmations on a daily basis; it becomes a habit like brushing your teeth. These short statements become more and more your reality as time goes by. Your life becomes easier, more fun, and creative the very day you begin to use affirmations. Does this sound like a good idea?

In the beginning, you want to saturate your subconscious mind with this new information to redirect how you build your life. Your past may have been rather drab, or even truly negative. To build a happier life, you will need to change the drab and negative words of your deep mind. At first your mind may only accept the new ones as a joke or with a sarcastic grin. That's the old self talking, trying to hang on. The new statements become true as you soften your shell and allow them in. Here are some ways to do this (and I learn new ones all the time):

Start with short statements that do not feel true for you at the moment, but that you wish were true. I created a list to jumpstart my life (again) in 2009. I began with little phrases I found in magazines. Here is what I started with: "I can play in the sky" "watch me soar" "develop our projects" "stretch the imagination" among others. I was pretty timid at the time. There I was: Within six months I had been widowed, undergone a big surgery on my face for cancer, was jobless, and had just put my 16 year old dog-buddy down. I was not strong, did not believe in myself, and felt utterly alone. Notice, however, that I used the word "our". In reviewing my collection of affirmations at that time I noticed that, two years later, every single affirmation had come true!

Here are some techniques to create and use affirmations on a daily basis:

· Find phrases in magazines that you wish were true for you, or that you think could be true with just a little luck and/or effort. Cut them out and paste them on an 8 ½"X11" cardboard. Use something pretty or interesting or representative of your desires (again, magazines are great) as a backing before you start pasting your affirmations onto it. We are not talking artistic perfection here- the phrases can be placed somewhat randomly, or in perfect order. Put a happy picture of yourself in the middle of this board. That way, you are happily surrounding yourself with your new thoughts. Hang this board somewhere where you will see it at least twice a day. (I use my bathroom mirror.) Read every phrase each time you look at it. You will find that different phrases jump out at you on different days. I just find that interesting.

· Create three phrases for yourself. ("I am important" "I am a loving person" "I am loved" "I trust my creative spirit" and on and on) Type them out, write them in magic markers, and tape them to your dashboard, your bathroom mirror and your fridge. Notice that I am saying "and" here-do it all. You are making up for lost time, so feel free to flood your mind with them. Every time you see one of these notes, say it out loud. Make a song of it and sing it to yourself in the shower. After about a month or more, you will not notice them all over the dashboard or the fridge. They may even sound a bit boring. This is a good thing; you are accepting them deeply within you. Time for new ones.

· Are you more high-tech? Make a screensaver out of them, or have them randomly float by on your working screen. Set up your phone for random texts of your affirmations during the day. Do you have a computer calendar? Enter your affirmations on future days. You'll sort of forget what you wrote where, so you will have new affirmations daily throughout the month.

· Get a notebook of some kind, and when you realize that one of your affirmations has come true for you, take it and put it in the notebook. Date it, and write a short description of what has become true for you in this way. When you review it later, you will be surprised by your feeling of satisfaction.

Using your personal sense of direction and your creative spirit, you can make affirmations that help you grow in steps toward that happier, lighter, more exciting life that awaits you.

Do Affirmations Help Anyone?

Recently, I watched an affirmation video that really stirred something inside of me. Way down deep in my heart, I suddenly felt like crying. It helped me start the day off right and made me feel clean inside as the tears washed themselves out of me. The video was on YouTube and was based on 'The secret' by Rhonda Byrne. Lots of people have read this, unfortunately, I am only just making my way through the book as a result of this wonderful video.

After watching the video, I scrolled down through all the comments that people had made, expecting to be inspired by other people's reactions to it when suddenly, I come across a comment which stopped me slightly in my tracks. It stated that it was pointless watching this video and saying affirmations as that did nothing for the world. I found it to be a pretty cynical way of looking at things so I have decided to write an article about it.

How do affirmations help?

1. It makes us feel better - Shallow, I know but it still is true. Now, we live in a world where atrocities happen on a daily basis, life can be very tough for a lot of people. In some third world countries, there is no respite from the sense of despair that overcomes people. I know because I have lived there. Would it make me feel any better to know that people in the developed countries were feeling down too? Nope, I did not spare you all a second thought so it made no difference to me whether you said affirmations or not!

2. It makes them feel better too - Again, it works on the side of people truly suffering in a physical manner. Without hope, people do not keep going day after day after day. The hope that things will improve is what helps people survive even in the most dreadful situations. They do not call them affirmations but that is what it is. Religion thrives in some countries because people are searching for hope.

3. Happy people help - The other thing of which I am certain, is that depressed people definitely do not help anyone. They get swallowed up in their own despair and then they are unable to see anyone else's needs but their own. I have no doubt that people who actually, tangibly help the poor and broken of the world are people who feel they are capable of giving. They are people who feel at least a bit positive about themselves. The ones that make the most difference are those who have an accurate picture of themselves, not deflated or inflated. They get on with it without being stifled by their own concerns.

I agree with the comment maker on one point only, affirmations do not change the world on their own. No doubt about that! However, I know definitely that affirmed people do help, they are able to give from their huge stores of positivity. Maybe a lot of people do not do it obviously but there are needy people everywhere, not just in Africa!

Let us all be people who are available to help those around us, even as we affirm ourselves each day!
